Runaway

Just saw Runaway Bride on tv. I think there’s a lot to be said for ditching people at the altar, you get to wear the dress and all and you can do it all again next year without having to go through all the bother of a divorce.

Actually, it’s rather a sweet film.

I have a view over the eastern part of Oslo from my window and right now there’s this odd blinking orange light, ooh, somewhere slightly east of Akershus Castle. It’s very odd. Judging from the distance, it’s too spread out to be one single roadworks vehicle, as it seems to stretch along a block at least. Also, it’s moving. Very odd. Maybe it’s a UFO? (Actually, since it’s not flying it’s more like a UDrivingO or a USlidingO.)

Oh, it’s out of sight now. Never mind.

No, I’m not going mad. I don’t think.

Ok, now I’m getting worried. There are two of them now, there’s another one slightly further up the hill.

I think I am going to go to bed. That seems like a good idea.

Space

It’s been an odd day. I tried to do some tidying, then realised that what I had been planning on doing (storage-wise) wasn’t going to work, so ended up not getting much done after all. Did go to the recycling station down the road to get rid of some bottles and empty tins though. Less clutter in the kitchen is a good thing.

Music in my head: Bottom of my Heart (Steinar Albrigtsen/Tom Pacheco – why, oh why? Must listen to something else to make it go away.)

Comments

Thanks to Donna for pointing me to dotcomments. You can now talk back. I may ignore you, though.

One of my best friends’ mother died yesterday.

On a more cheerful note (not one for dwelling on the sad stuff, me): Meatloaf is on VH-1 presenting “Ten of the Best”. I love digital cable.

I was going to write rather a long note, but I find I’m not up to it right now. Watch this space.

Music in the room: True Colours (Hey, Meatloaf likes Cyndi Lauper, too.)

Pictures

Contemplating buying a digital camera. A cheapish one. One for taking acceptable pictures for publishing on the net. I’m playing with this idea of adding a “my world” section to this page. A sort of pictoral diary or something. Not quite webcam, and I don’t know how much I’ll figure in the pictures myself, but it might be kinda fun to show you pictures of the stuff I talk about. What do you think? Answers on a postcard, please. (Note to self: Sort out a comment function.) Guess I might have to upgrade to pro if I want to integrate blog and pictures, but that’s hardly an expense compared to the camera (though there’s a nice Olympus on sale).

Got a book in the mail today from one of the (many) bookclubs I’m in that I certainly do not want and that I am sure I cancelled. On the upside, I’m going to participate in a focus-group-type-thingy in a couple of weeks which has to do with books. (Did you notice those two sentences were completely unrelated?)

Music in my head: That Ain’t No Way to Treat a Lady (which it’s on the stereo, so it’s outside my head, too)

Archiving

I wonder if the archiving works now? Discovered I had forgotten the s on the end of the folder name on the server, and what with computers being very apt to take things literally this naturally caused some problems.

Go away

I hate street musicians.

Not in a “I want them all to be hanged and then cut into little pieces and then jumped on” kind of way, just in a “could they please go and play somewhere where I don’t have to listen to them” kind of way.

Song in my head: I just called to say I love you (guess why)

Curry

My father turned up, and bought me drinks at The Dubliner and curry at Ma’raja, which is not to be sneezed at (odd expression, that). Very nice.

Tonight I’m attending my first board meeting of the Norwegian Malt Whisky Society (Norsk Maltwhisky Lag) – I was elected secretary at the annual meeting. Should be fun, though it occurs to me that with my ability to remember names (which is so neglible that “non-existent” is only slightly inaccurate) may be a bit of a handicap. Oh, well, good practice, I suppose.

Got my tax-form-thingy in the mail yesterday (basically a form that tells you what the government think you earned/owed/owned last year and how much they think you should pay them and how much you have paid them, with the conclusion being you owe them money or they owe you money). Nice sort of mail to get, as I paid too much last year (on purpose) and therefore they owe me money. A bit disappointing that the money won’t be paid out until late June (I should have known that), but still – the alternative is a bill, of course, and a bill of any size would be bad right now.

Song in my head: Don’t think twice, it’s all right
