19 is unfair – I mean, it’s not as if I’ve ever tried to avoid growing a beard. 45 is out for obvious reasons (anyone come up with a good alternative?). And I think that on the whole, not having done 53 and 80 yet it would be better if I never did.

20, though, seems like a pretty good idea. And 87 has to be the perfect way to celebrate once the kitchen actually gets done…

We did some washing yesterday – two machine loads – but there must be something wrong with the machines. I realised this when I was putting away the dry, clean clothes and sat down to match the socks up, because – get this – all the socks matched!

And here I was, thinking that unmatched socks out of the washing machine was one of life’s constants, like gravity (which – though highly opposed in some quarters – seems quite immune to all petitions) or people’s inability to realise that if you let people off the bus first, there’ll be more room for you to get on.

Kyle left comments in an earlier post about banned/challenged books, alerting me to the existence of the ALA (American Library Association) webpages. Having a look at the ala.org (not .com) webpage is recommended – they have a lot of interesting material on challenged and banned books. They also advertise Banned Books Week (25th September – 2nd October 2004), which seems like an excellent initiative.
