Time flies

1. Do you watch sports? If so, which ones?
Not if I can help it!

2. What/who are your favorite sports teams and/or favorite athletes?
I couldn't care less for team sports. My favourite athlete is Lance Armstrong, because he beat cancer and he's very motivated and a great motivator, and G and D like him. So, it's more like I have favourites by proxy.

3. Are there any sports you hate?
Ice hocky? Rugby? Football (soccer, for you Americans)? Hate is not a word in my vocabulary, really. If I would hate any sports it would be the ones above because they're so aggressive. Kinda fits, doesn't it?
There is something about sports in general which I strongly disapprove of: doping. What's the point in winning if it's not really you but some little pill or other inanimate substance did the winning for you?!? That's just stupid.

4. Have you ever been to a sports event?
Yes. None that I didn't participate in myself, though. No wait, I have been to events I didn't participate in: horse jumping. I was accompanying a good friend who *was* participating. Where are you, T?

5. Do/did you play any sports (in school or other)? How long did you play?
Yes! Lemmecee. I played korfball when I was in primary school, for, oh, a couple of years. Then I danced when I was in secondary school. In university I picked up squash (racket ball) and aerobics, and swimming and tae bo. After university I started yoga and weight training, and last year I picked up running. I started dancing again this Autumn (Fall).

P00p p00p!

1. What vehicle do you drive?
A bicycle. Oh, wait, you can't drive that, you ride it. I don't drive anything. The s.o. drives a VW Passat.

2. How long have you had it?
Three years. Oh, no, the car you mean, well, s.o. has had it for just over a month. Oooh, pretty.

3. What is the coolest feature on your vehicle?
Oh, c'mon, it's a new Passat! It's black, it's shiny, it's big, it's comfy, it's got cup holders, air conditioning, and a navigation system! And it drives like a dream, ahhh :-)

4. What is the most annoying thing about your vehicle?
That it isn't mine. And when I do get a car of my own, it won't be as cool by far. In fact, it won't even be new. It'll be small and second hand, and I should probably forget about the cup holders and air conditioning, too.

5. If money were no object, what vehicle would you be driving right now?
BMW X5, no doubt about that!

Thank you for the music

1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why? Just one? Oh, come on! Ok then, Mariah Carey. No, The Beatles. Or just Paul McCartney. U2. The Rolling Stones. Oh, I know: Nick Cave. Why? I just love their music.

2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why?
Britney Spears. Ewww!

3. If your favorite singer wasn't in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person?
Yes! There may be brilliant musicians out there who are terrible as a person, but they're not even on my short list.

4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show?
Yes, well, not that many. Can I count concert dvds in this, 'cause that brings the number up significantly and gives me some comparison. Real live I've only seen Tina Turner and Ronan Keating, and Tina had by far the best show. Heh, I only went to see Ronan for laughs anyway. On dvd I've seen The Stones, U2, Prince, Mariah Carey... oooh, I'll catch Mariah live in a couple of weeks. Yeah!

5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music?
I sort of agree with Robin on this one (that's a first - not). Well, I'm not convinced either way on whether RIAA is right. I think the fines they're wanting to charge in the US are preposterous, and not everybody in the music industry agree on the fact that downloads are a problem at all.

What's in a name?

A rose by any other name would not make ...

1. Is the name you have now the same name that's on your birth certificate? If not, what's changed?
Errr, no. Different names for different purposes, that's my motto (well, one of them *g*)

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?
I'd probably skip the middle names - I was named after my grandfathers for my 2 middle names, and the result ain't pretty. I used to want to change my first name, since it rhymed too easily with stupid stuff, but who doesn't get teased about their name, eh? And I already changed my last name: I got married. Ha!

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)
Well, I got my first name because my sister liked it (she was 6 when I was born), and my middle names are maimings of my grand fathers' names.

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?
There are names that make me cringe or tingle (or just tingle), but usually that's got more to do with knowing a person by that name than the name itself. Overly special and overly simple names make me roll my eyes (what were the parents thinking!?!). One beauty: the principle of my primary school had a first and last name that rhymed! Cute, huh?

5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn't it?

The name of [censored, see answer 1] creates a very quiet, practical nature and a clever and inventive mind. Being analytical and naturally studious, you are interested in a factual understanding of the mysteries of life. Your methodical nature requires that you like to finish what you start without interruptions and also to have everything in its place and properly organized. An ability to concentrate could take you into computer programming or accountancy or any work requiring concentration and attention to detail. You have, also, a flair for creative expression with your hands. You take life seriously and can be easily and deeply hurt and go into moods which can be quite extreme at times, causing much turmoil and unhappiness. Finding it difficult to join in conversation with those with whom you are not well-acquainted, you could feel quite alone and uncommunicative with new acquaintances or in a large crowd. As a result, you could be accused of being unfriendly. You desire so much to be understood, but your name has limited your verbal expression to such an extent that it is very difficult for you to divulge your innermost thoughts even to those closest to you. One of your greatest salvations is being out in nature, for it is there that you find the peace and serenity you so much desire.

Wow, that's pretty accurate - except for the extreme focus on detail. I've been told I'm quite good at seeing the big picture, really. Hmm, I guess I have attention for detail without getting obsessed, is more like it. And I'm simply too insecure to make use of my hands creatively.
(side note: the health hazards are completely off the mark)

Monday's late

1. When was the last time you helped out a friend in need? What was going on that made you want to help?
Eh? Define need. Constantly - I'm always there for my friends. If they need, and I can, I do. Simple.

2. Are you a "pet" person? Do you like to keep pets or would you rather not bother with them? Why?
Yes and yes. I'd love a bunch of cats and a couple of dogs. No can do because of my work, though. Grrrrr (no pun intended).

3. In a dating or married relationship, is it possible to change someone to be more like you want them to be? Have you tried to or had someone try to change you? How did it turn out?
Yes, but only if the person you're trying to change is you. You can not change another person, no matter how much you want to or feel you are right to. If you try, it is more than likely going to backfire - either the person will change in the opposite or some unexpected and obscure direction, and/or you will lose the person. I speak from experience as both intended changor and intended changee.

4. In your opinion, why is it that some married people have affairs? Is it ever justified?
They're bad, or in a bad relationship, or in a bad place, or think they are. No, never.

5. Do you tend to make the same mistakes over and over? Got any examples?
No! Durrr. Nobody intends to make the same mistake over and over, do they? They just do. Make the mistakes. Until they learn to avoid it, which is when they'll start making other mistakes. Of course, they might learn to make new mistakes whilst still trying to tackle the earlier mistakes. Life's complicated, life is.

6. What do you find distracts you the most when you are trying to concentrate?
The voices inside my head.

7. What do you know "now," that you wish you knew "then?"
a. you can't change people, and people can't change you (although either might be persuaded to change part of their behaviour)
b. always have taxi money at hand

BONUS: What's the matter with your life?
Nothing, why, do you think there's something the matter with my life?
